RK3399 will be XR new platform?

There are two main chips used in the VR field, RK3288 and RK3399. These two chips were released earlier, including RK3288 in 2014 and RK3399 in 2016.
According to its official website, the RK3288 uses an ARM Cortex-A17 architecture processor, configured with Mali-T76X series GPUs, supports hard H.265 encoding and 4K movies, and supports HDMI2.0 interfaces, which can be used with 4K TVs. In addition to 16 shading engines, the Mali T764 GPU has introduced a number of memory compression technologies, such as ASTC texture compression technology, ARM Frame Buffer Compression, and TransacTIon EliminaTIon intelligent elimination technology. The application of the three technologies has comprehensively improved the image performance of RK3288.
The CPU of RK3399 adopts big LITTLE large and small core architecture, with two Cortex-A72 large cores and four Cortex-A53 small cores, is a 64 bit six core processor with a maximum dominant frequency of 2.0GHz. The mature 28 nm process is adopted.
In terms of GPU, RK3399 integrates ARM's new generation high-end image processor Mali-T860@MP4 GPU integrates more bandwidth compression technologies, such as intelligent stacking, ASTC, local pixel storage, etc. It also supports more graphics and computing interfaces. This is also the reason why RK3399 can be applied to VR products with high requirements for graphics processing.
In addition, RK3399 applies deep optimized low delay technology for VR devices, making the total time less than 20ms. It is understood that this low latency rendering technology is to calculate a new frame of the rendered image based on the latest sensor orientation information, and then submit it to the display screen under the condition that the position remains unchanged. Combined with driver level and image engine level optimization, it can finally present a comfortable visual environment, which is more than 5 times higher than that of the Android system without optimization. At the same time, it has a refresh rate of more than 75Hz (up to 90Hz), 4K UHD decoding and other advantages.
In addition, the newly launched flagship processor RK3588 of Ruixin Microelectronics can also support VR applications. The processor is designed with Samsung 8nm technology, equipped with a quad core A76+quad core A55 eight core CPU and an Arm high-performance GPU, with a built-in 6T computing power NPU.

According to its official introduction, the RK3588 has strong visual processing capability and can support multiple fast face unlocking schemes such as structured light and TOF; Support rich display interfaces, up to 8K display processing capacity; It has good scalability, supports high-speed interfaces such as PCIE3.0, SATA3.0, dual TypeC/USB3.1, and can expand AI computing power, image data processing, etc. It can be applied to ARMPC, high-end tablet computers, edge computing servers, virtual reality, NVR, 8K TV, etc.
